Packing Clothes for Moving

Packing Clothes for MovingThere is so much you have to do when you are preparing to move that it is extremely tempting to just toss all of your clothes into a couple of boxes and call it a day! When you are packing clothes for moving though you really need to plan for it. Not only do you need suits, dresses, and business wear to be wrinkle free, you are going to need to easily find your clothes after the big move. While they may not go bad like food, you do not want to end up wearing the same couple of articles of clothing several days in a row or be forced to do laundry right after moving into your new place.

What most people don’t realize is that packing clothes for moving can be simple without being sloppy.

Dresser Clothing

For items that you keep in your dresser, you may be able to remove the drawers to move the dresser to the van, put the drawers back in for the drive, then remove them at your new place. It means you don’t need boxes for your clothes, just a couple extra minutes to pull the drawers out and put them back. Of course, you will want to make sure everything is folded neatly so it doesn’t spill out on to the floor or ground between the truck and your home!

If you have too many clothes, you can use your suitcases. To make it really easy, you can fill your suitcase with the clothes that you want to wear for the first week or two after you move.

Dress Clothing

Your nice clothing is going to take a little extra time and attention, but it isn’t as bad as you may think. If you still have the plastic bags from when you bought that really nice suit or dress, use that to make sure that no dirt or stains get on the clothing. You can also put several items in one bag. Then just hang it in the truck or your car during the move. You can also wrap and tape bags around a group of items still on their hangers to make putting everything in your new closet quick and easy!

There are also boxes specially designed for moving clothing that needs to be hung up. These boxes are called wardrobe boxes. If you don’t mind spending the extra money, this is an easy way to not only move but keep track of your nicer clothes.

Laundry

Dirty laundry is one of the last things people think about when considering packing clothes for moving, but that can be incredibly problematic. From bed sheets to sweaty clothes to kitchen towels, you are going to need all of those items again. It’s not that you don’t plan to move them, it’s more likely you may forget where you put them or they’ll get mixed in with stuff that you won’t unpack for a few weeks. The best way to manage dirty clothes is by using a hamper or container that has a lid. This makes it easier to find and wash the clothes as soon as you have the space to get to your washer and drying.
